2025 Letter from the Co-Chair

January 6, 2026 Tom Nagel

Welcome to our latest newsletter on Belize2020 – you will quickly appreciate the remarkable efforts and accomplishments of the energetic volunteers in Belize and the US. Our outcomes have been real, measurable and meaningful. Collectively, we are grateful, enriched, and blessed to be a part of this positive endeavor. We are especially proud of the personal relationships that have formed. It’s unbelievable how things can change when we let God into our lives.

We held a large planning event at SLU this summer, called The Summit @SLU 2.0, and made excellent progress in defining our next 10 years. Our first planning summit was just over 10 years ago and it really got Belize 2020 off to a great start.

A special congratulations goes to Fr. Matt Ruhl SJ, pastor of St. Peter Claver Parish in Punta Gorda, Belize. Please see the story inside to learn about his ambitious fundraising activities.

Our Trivia Night was held on Saturday, November 15 at St. Louis University High School. This is our main fund raising event of the year, but we continue to solicit your help in donating whatever you can to support the Jesuit works in Belize. Please scan the QR code on the back page to help us with our important mission.

In the 2025 newsletter, you’ll find:

  • St. Martin de Porres School: A new leadership team brings fresh initiatives and energy to school.

  • St. John’s College: Revamping their campus ministry efforts, the college sees engaging students spirituality as a vital tool for processing trauma.

  • Project HEAL: The program introduced a community family liaison to coordinate with families of the students that they serve.

  • The Lighthouse Ride: In an effort to raise money for schools in Belize, Fr. Matt Ruhl rides his bike across the United States.

  • The Summit: Belize 2020 gathered together this summer to set their sights on the future of the organization.

Please enjoy this newsletter and thank you for your support of the Jesuits in Belize and the children we help.

Sincerely,

Dale Auffenberg & Mark LaBarge,

Belize 2020 Co-Chairs
